Training in Szolnok
As we approach the halfway point in our eight week stint in Szolnok I thought it was about time to do a quick update. On the training front things are progressing along as you might expect… Lots of kilometres travelled and many litres of perspiration expired. To use a few cliches – We’re all doing our best to tick all the boxes and leave no stone unturned so that, come London, we can all put our best foot forward and leave nothing in the tank which will hopefully enable us to come away with the win… Or something along those lines.
In other news, we’ve had a few little outings and adventures to break up the monotony of training. See a few of the highlights below:
The Girls Arrive
A couple of the other girls (Jakes girlfriend Sammy, Dave’s girlfriend Nina, Ken’s girlfriend Naomi, and my fiancé Bec of course) have been in town recently creating somewhat of a little cheer squad on the banks at training, and adding a collective breath of fresh air to the boys club.
Hungarian Water polo Game
We were very lucky to get the opportunity to see the Hungarian mens water polo team and reigning Olympic Champions (for the last three Olympics I should add) dismantle the Croatians. The match was literally a stone’s throw from our hotel and we were invited as special guests which was quite a privilege. The game, although a little one-sided, was impressive to watch. I think they might just make it four in a row.
Visit to Italy
As you do when you’re in Europe we had an over night trip to Italy, which was quite something. The highlight of the trip (apart from sampling the local cuisine that is) was collecting our Olympic uniform! Unfortunately I can’t put up photos of the gear until after the 16th of July, but I can say that there is a lot of stuff and it’s all pretty cool. My favourite item would still have to be the opening ceremony jacket, but maybe that’s just because I got to present it to Australia at fashion week!
Yet again this year I had my birthday mid training camp in Szolnok. This year however I felt very spoilt. Not only did I get the company of my beautiful fiancé, a thousand messages and emails, a few sneaky presents, a nice birthday lunch and dinner… But we also got a sleep-in!
